Model essay: Agree/DisagreeIELTS Medical
- By Dr. B
Governments spend millions of dollars each year on their space programmes. Most recently, Mars is the focus of scientists’ attention. Some people think this money would be better spent on dealing with problems close to home. Do you agree or disagree?
Life outside the Earth has always been a debated issue and, because of that, many countries invest a great amount of money on space programmes. However, it would be controversial if this money were to be used to deal with world’s pressing problems instead. I believe that this budget could be spent in better ways to improve life on Earth, and this essay will present arguments to support my opinion.
Some people hold the view that investing in space programmes is vital to a country’s economy. Scientific studies and research can lead to technological innovation. New rockets and satellites can be useful to enhance humankind’s knowledge about the Solar System. In addition, these advances and discoveries can be fundamental to understanding life on planet Earth. Lastly, people believe that these programmes mean status and power to their countries, as they require a great deal of funds to be invested.
However, arguments against this waste of money are more compelling. Poverty, starvation and violence are some of the most critical problems of the world. Such problems could be minimized with large amounts of money and joint efforts from different nations. The money from space programmes could be better spent on these issues. Furthermore, part of these investments could be redirected to health and educational systems in order to prioritize social equality and a better standard of life for each citizen on the planet.
In conclusion, although space programmes are supported by many, I think that these funds could be used to tackle some pressing issues in the world, such as poverty and violence. This would make the Earth a build a better place to live.
