Who is the course suitable for?
The one:one live course is suitable for medics who require a B and above in OET Reading (all professions) and focuses on teaching you to tackle this element of the exam.
What is class like?
Each double session is 1 hr and 15 mins long with a 15 mins break, and focuses on a specific type of the OET Reading exam. You will be one:one with the tutor (who is also a healthcare professional) who will provide you with instruction and set you homework.
How long will it take me to complete?
Connecting with our OET instructors twice (5 hours contact & 5 hours homework) or thrice (7.5 hours contact & 8 hours homework) per week (course fee is weekly), the course will expose you to techniques to ace the OET Reading (all professions) and prepare you to produce a performance that reaches the marking criteria at grade B or above. Across the duration of your course, you will be assessed on the following:
- Reading Part A (the summary task) tests your ability to skim and scan quickly across different texts on a given topic in order to identify and synthesise selected information. For that purpose, Part A is strictly timed and you must complete all the items within 15 minutes. To complete the task successfully, you will also need the ability to understand the conventions of different medical text types, differentiate main ideas from supporting information, and understand the presentation of numerical and textual data.
- Reading Part B tests your ability to understand longer passages of text at the level of word/phrase, explicit meaning, and implied meaning. To complete the task successfully, you will also need the ability to identify the purpose of a text, to understand the relationships between ideas, and to understand at the level of the paragraph as well as the sentence.
What about homework?
Advanced learners will be expected to complete essays and reports between their classes and will be expected to consistently score their target grades. There is also free practice material in the Medics’ Centre.
At the end of the course, a mini-mock will be delivered under examination conditions.
